ATKT stamp for engineering students
Engineering students have
one more reason to cheer this year. The academic council
of the University of Mumbai on Tuesday decided to give grades
(1st Class; 2nd Class and Pass Class) to students passing
with Allowed to Keep Terms (ATKTs) in their final year.
Earlier, students who passed their final year after clearing
their ATKTs were given just a Pass Class even if they topped
their class. “Earlier the mark sheet only showed Pass
without percentage or class division. It was obvious that
we cleared with ATKTs,” said Talwinder Singh, an engineering
student from KJ Somaiya college of Engineering, Vidyavihar.
“The proposal will be presented before the management
council of the university meeting on April 24. I am confident
that it will be approved,” said AD Sawant, pro-vice
chancellor, University of Mumbai. The move will eliminate
the fear of final year engineering students towards ATKT.
“Employers too aren’t keen on hiring students
with a Pass Class on their mark sheet,” said Ashish
Sinha, a final year engineering student of Bharatiya Vidyapeeth,
CBD Belapur.
Sawant added that the varsity’s intention was to
make things easier for students. “Student are under
stress. By displaying their percentage and grade in the
mark sheet we will eliminate their fear,” he said.
